This piece generally rings true. However, it is worth noting that Elon had other, possibly greater, motivations for buying Twitter, namely, that keeping Twitter, the new town square, free from the Censorship Complex is important to the continuation of democracy. Some may downplay or completely dismiss this threat - Elon's release of the twitter files shows otherwise. Michael Schellenberger's Public Substack is a great read on the topic.

This insight is fascinating and likely very true. Ego? Insecurity? Too many ass kissers chanting go for it? All of the above but perhaps this is the deep dive that puts it to bed for me at least.

"What Elon is doing, which was common before social media, is fucking with people who take things too seriously. It’s a personality trait many have, they find it amusing how such innocuous things makes people freak out so hard. Listen to old school comedians talk about their social group of other comedians where they were coming up. Everyone always talked shit, and if anyone took serious offense, the shit talking would intensify. It’s banter."

I would hardly call some of the stuff Elon posts (or reposts) "innocuous". Maybe at one point, but he's crossed that line quite a few times now. Elon's problem (among many) is that he wants to be a main character of the internet, but he's not clever or funny enough to rise above the level of "reply guy with a megaphone". He shares the same dumb shit that a wannabe edgelord 8th grade boy would share, and with the same level of forethought.
