My theory about the "pro-Tiktok progressives" is it stems from their very intense desire to align themselves with young people.
That's also why they tend to be anti- "it's the phones", because that implicitly blames young people for using their phones rather than society for failing them. Instead, they talk a lot about walkability, third places, etc.
It's fascinating to see people take the pro-TikTok position because in general it's often them just taking another unrelated position they have and grafting "this is the real reason they want to ban TikTok" onto it. Which means that if you bring up that we began the investigation and evaluation of TikTok two plus years ago before there was a Middle East catastrophe they just graft on another reason.
Also, people like it because the algorithm is very effective at directly delivering them the shit they want to see. I had a buddy get mad at me because I posted an article critical of TikTok, which he then claimed was the only place he was able to see a specific speech during the UAW strike because the "mainstream media wasn't covering it" and then I Google'd it. To the absolute shock of no one here, I was able to find video of the full speech on various MSM platforms, but since they didn't serve it up to him like room service, he assumed they didn't cover it.
Recently saw a viral TikTok about how TikTok is a replacement for Google and how they have friends who just look things up on TikTok instead. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that TikTok should be banned expeditiously
What? You're not going to tell us how big you bet on Reddit? Give us at least an idea. Not asking you to be a financial advisor here, but I'm curious if you just pulled the trigger on a token amount so that you can see behind the curtain or if you actually decided to really get on for the ride.
Also, I could 100% see a subredded popping up full of people wholly dedicated to trying to manually adjust the stock price on a whim from one day to the next. It would be the most Reddit thing possible.

I think this is a great insight - people use tiktok as an excuse to talk about whatever they already wanted to talk about

I also got into the Reddit IPO, but I have to say, the amount I'm thinking I should spend on it is zero.

You should imagine it as either several million or literally one share, whichever is funnier
