<Also in YouTube: thanks to Japan’s absolutely deranged copyright laws, a Japanese YouTuber was sentenced to two years in prison for uploading video game and anime content without publisher permission.>
Do we know if Nintendo has played a role in this, similar to how Disney gets involved with public domain laws in the US? Not saying in this particular instance, but in the climate overall?
They are known for being particularly gangster when it comes to this stuff.
Have you see any posts or articles disagreeing with your famous "Ugh, Capitalism" article? I've seen it cited a fair amount, but have never seen someone try to take the opposite position and say "no, this kind of consciousness raising is an effective part of building left-wing power." It's kind of odd.
I've seen comments on reddit/twitter arguing with it, but nothing serious. Vox has a mostly terrible 'Blame Capitalism' podcast series going now that might qualify though.
Vox and Deadspin are both places I discovered later than many other people, kind of liked for a bit, then looked up one day and realized some of those people were just the worst.
It feels like a lot of what happened is that people took a lot of the rhetorical tropes from Buzzfeed-era feminism discussions (which I'm pretty positive about!), and applied them to a concept where they don't work as well
My cat thought that was the worst podcast host ever.

Jonas: Our time together is about to come to an end. That's all right. You can't smear me. I'm part of you now.
Sophie: This marriage will disappear. Your reputation will disappear. Your fans will disappear.
Jonas: My fans will never harm me.
Sophie: You've trained them to love me. You said it yourself.
Jonas: They're loyal women.
Sophie: They were. Now they're scorned.
lmao
now i'm mad that you thought of this and not me
