To some extent, you can map a similar logic onto the recent controversy over Eileen Gu competing for China. Like, yes, it's true that other people have exploited heritage citizenship rules to compete for countries they don't have particularly strong connections to (usually just as an easy button to qualify for the Olympics without competing at the U.S. trials), but I stuggle to think of a prior example where they've done so as a credulous participant in such transparent propaganda operations.

I think wrt footnote 1, Trump really fried the brain of a lot of ppl - like he constantly lies so often and I think he’s punished for that more than ppl think but it also is true that he has a bit of superpower being that habitual constant liar (and entertaining)

I feel like Vance is the one who literally took the wrong lesson from it
