Is BookTok full of perverts?

That’s the theory coming from The Reading Nook, who recently got embroiled in a dramatic online battle with BookTok.

The last time we were talking about BookTok, it was because they turned a hockey player into the star of several erotica novels against his will and then threatened his wife when she objected to it. So yes, BookTok has a problem with perverts. There is a shockingly high proportion of BookTokkers whose only interest in reading lies in the ‘Give it to me Daddy’ genre of fiction. And The Reading Nook has some words for them:

If Booktok was solely a community of men talking about their kinks in public, and telling each other to read x,y,z because they were able to “read it with one hand” while simultaneously jerking off to it, you would all be calling the police. You don’t and never have accepted this level of sexual freedom for the opposite gender.

This is entirely true, and it’s fascinating how we treat the genders differently when it comes to the expression of sexuality. One book seller shared her experience:
