My mostly (though not completely) uninformed opinion on the Hollywood labor strike situation is that the AI-generated content component of all this is such a major sticking point that I think the guilds are going to spend all of their leverage on that front (perhaps not unwisely) and end up making major concessions on nearly all of the other ones. The demands for larger writer's rooms, more set visits for writers, the lack of real residuals for streaming, etc., will probably get melted away in the face of the bigger perceived threat.

I'm not optimistic about Degrowth not taking a hold here, just because of how compelling it is to a certain kind of activist. It gives you the illusion of avoiding any trade-offs -- "a lithium mine would harm the environment so we should just consume less" is EXTREMELY tempting. Think of all the people that are like "instead of building more housing here, we should have a community garden!"

You can cast Degrowth as fulfilling a ton of New Left tropes too, such as a return to more communal living, less consumerism, etc. It's the No Labels of environmentalism.
