If you’re interested in reading out the birth of what is really the western ethics system, I highly recommend checking out Dominion by Tom Holland. It’s a history of Christianity and how its rise to prominence and eventual dominance in Europe/the West shaped our ethics and way of seeing the world.
The last few chapters in the particular may be interesting to you because Holland outlines the faith’s loss of power in the 20th century. You can start to see the beginnings of what you describe as Trumpism Ethics.
One of my all time favorite books. Even if you’re not a Christian (Holland isn’t), I think you’ll enjoy the feeling of watching the liberal ethics that underpin our country emerge from the past.
I do wonder how much of this is just people believing the worldview that would work best (or they imagine would work best, if only...x, y, or z were true) for them.
If you're a bully, or a tough guy, or a wannabe in that mold, of course you will see the world through that lens, because then you see a clear path to success.
Ditto if you are a bookish dork. A world where the main goal of people should be to project others is appealing.
Biggest example of this is Zuck who is clearly a pale dork, starting BJJ and suddenly being like, "actually, masculine values are great". FWIW, there are counter examples to this track in BJJ, like the B-Team , who literally sell shirts that say "Keep BJJ gay" and tells people not to listen to Navy Seal podcasts.
I feel like this framework explains at least some part of one of my questions - why do all those online far right sickos act like they’re on the winning/exploiting side even in reality they’re on the losing/exploiting side. like now I think what they crave for and what Trump and Musk sell i now think is the illusion of being a master
And this also explains why there seems to be a counterintuitive coalition of nationalists across the globe (like by definition, nationalists care about their own country not others) - interpreting this as the coalition of master morality makes a lot of sense.
