I feel like I was able to articulate how I feel about all this thanks to you - I feel like fundamental paradox of engagement maxxing is, it inherently makes you loved by a minority of weirdo while very off putting to the rest.

And I increasingly feel like they become more and more blind about the latter. Like it’s not even “I am aware of the hater and idc” but “they truly are unaware that what they do is deeply unpopular and off putting to majority of ppl”

And as a marketing (or scamming) strategy, this is unethical but good strategy where superfans matter way more than haters but when it comes to representation politics, it is not

It's a mix of very strong filter bubbles and the 'everyone is famous to 15 people' dynamic colliding.

Totally!

And I think one of the irony is, while Trump is undeniably insane and extreme, he’s also genuinely funny even outside of that bubble. And I feel like this is really one of the underestimated characteristics of him that makes him more successful that he should be.

However, all the rest of MAGA ppl only have “insane and extreme” part - and I guess in order to match the attention Trump gets, they have to go even more extreme and crazy while them being very unlikable to begin with

Is he? People say that about Alex Jones, who just seems like a big bloviating idiot to me. As opposed to the now-late Catherine O'Hara, a genuinely funny person.

> Shouldn’t you be in it for the good of the subreddit, because you like the subject at hand? In a perfect world, yes...

And that perfect world, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call r/neoliberal.

"I’ve written before about how Reddit is the one site where power users actually have a bit of power"

Was the Reddit protest considered successful in hindsight?

That reddit mod video looked almost fake. Skin overly smooth with textures washed out. Not going to say it's AI as there are other ways to achieve that look, but still, something feels wrong about it.

“Andrew Tate is The Reddit mod above doesn’t care about his community, he cares about content monetization opportunities.” - did you forget to finish the first sentence?

Fixed the typo, thanks.
