To the guy who wrote a 3000 word comment longer than my post white-knighting Elon's conspiracy theories: I want you to know that I read the first paragraph, laughed at you, and then deleted/banned without reading the rest. I hope that time for you was well spent.

I was wondering what happened, lol.

The post said one comment, I clicked on it to see what it was cuz I'm usually the first person here, and then there was nothing. Some people, man...they just love that fucking guy.

I'm not trying to diagnose from a distance or anything, but given a spiral that both the frequency and tenor that Elon's posts have taken on the last few years, combined with the stories about drug use that we're reading in the media, It's entirely possible that this is just a guy with addiction issues, combined with whatever is going on in his personal life and his individual psychology.

I think people who are on Elon or, in a similar example, Kanye's, nuts, have a hard time fathoming how this person who is a genius in other ways is not playing 5th dimensional chess on this particular topic. My opinion is that the same traits that lead you to that level of success, are also leads you to going off the rails once you become successful. If you are Kanye, or Elon, or anyone similar, the amount of times that you would have had to ignore people 's opinions, or had people tell you that you didn't know what you were talking about, or that your idea was stupid, or that your dreams were dumb, on the way to achieving wild success would, I think, lead one to believe that they always know better than the people around them, because ignoring other people's opinions has led them to spectacular successes. But as you said before, someone can be a genius at one thing and a complete moron at an entirely different thing. It's likely, in fact.

I should add, when I say "just a guy with addiction issues", I'm not saying that his potential addiction issues are leading him to have anti-trans, or anti-semitic beliefs, because there's plenty of addicts who do not have those beliefs, I'm just saying that for some segment of his fanboys, I think they have a hard time fathoming that he can be a regular old ass addict like anyone else.

I wouldn't discount the Bernie/Warren attacks in 2020. It kind of shifted how media reported on him, thus contributing to his rightward movement.

Excellent article. While so much of media tries to spin theories on how politicians are playing 4D chess, most things end up making far more sense under the assumption it's checkers.

People who are intelligent enough to take ideas seriously can get argued into very stupid places based on a few faulty premises. The 9/11 attackers are excellent examples.

I saw that argument back when it happened and I was actually unsure who I agreed with, and you've definitely convinced me that Musk isn't faking. Yglesias said the same thing about Jamie Dimon, do you have an opinion there? Is Dimon faking?
